2012 Toyota Tundra tough and tricked out

The Toyota Tundra returns after being named “Best Overall Value” in the full-size pickup segment by IntelliChoice last year, with simplified option packages and detailed enhancements for 2012.

Three engine choices will be offered; a 270-horsepower 4.0-liter V6, a 310-horsepower 4.6-liter V8 and the 381-horsepower 5.7-liter V8. Standard features on the Tundra include a heavy-duty battery and starter, windshield wiper de-icer, daytime running lights, front and rear mudguards and heated, power, outside mirrors.

The Tundra Double Cab and Crew Max models offer a Chrome Package featuring a chromed exhaust top, side mirrors, door handles and chrome-clad 18-inch steel wheels.

Two grades will be offered, Tundra and Limited; three cab styles, Regular, Double Cab and Crew Max; three wheelbase lengths and three bed lengths.

2012 Tacoma Baja Series rugged and ready

At the Texas State Fair, Toyota introduced a Tacoma T|X (Tacoma Extreme) limited edition pickup. The special package is designed by Toyota Racing Development and inspired by the legendary Baja 500 and 1000 races.

The Tacoma T|X Baja Series models will be built at the San Antonio plant and scheduled for launch in late spring 2012.

Prius vs. Prius Plug-in: What’s the difference?

Last week Cloninger Toyota featured the standard Prius in this post, but Toyota recently introduced the Prius Plug-in Hybrid at the Green Drive Expo and we’ll examine some of the differences between the models.

The Prius Plug-in Hybrid seats five and combines the Prius model’s hybrid technology with extended electrical vehicle (EV) driving at a more affordable price. With the release of the Prius C in 2012, Toyota’s Prius line now has four different models.

Toyota’s Prius primed for 2012

Toyota’s top-selling hybrid, the Prius, has a new body style and connectivity features for the 2012 model year. The most fuel-efficient gas-powered passenger car available gets 50 mpg, sits five passengers and is recognized as a midsize car. The Prius Two, Three, Four and Five models all feature audio/infotainment upgrades. Entune and navigation are standard on the Three and Four models with the JBL GreenEdge speaker system in the Four model. The Five model will be equipped with the Advanced Technology Package.

A new front fascia and bumper along with headlamps and tail lamps are detailed for 2012.

Also offered is the Solar Roof Package that uses packaged solar panels in the world’s first sliding glass moonroof to power the ventilation system.

Toyota FJ Cruiser presents unique mix

Building on Toyota’s off-road legacy and modern capabilities, the FJ Cruiser presents a distinctive combination for the Japanese automaker. Cloninger Toyota has older models in stock, but the 2012 models will arrive soon.

The 2012 FJ Cruiser offers a standard audio system with AM/FM CD player, MP3/WMA connectivity, XM Radio capability, auxiliary audio jack, USB port and Bluetooth capability. Optional is the 10-speaker JBL audio system complete with subwoofer.

With an optional receiver hitch, the FJ Cruiser can tow 5,000 pounds.

2012 Tacoma refreshed and restyled for release

The Toyota Tacoma exterior has been restyled and the interior upgraded for all 2012 models. The best-selling compact pickup truck in the U.S. market also received the new Entune audio system.

The redesigned hood, grille, headlamps and front bumper give the Tacoma a fresh look. Inside, the center-instrument panel features a new design and revised gauge cluster, as well as a new steering wheel. The redesigned center stack provides new power point locations and air conditioner/heater controls.

The updated Tacoma interior sports a black, high-contrast center console, switch plate covers, dash and upper trim with the SR5 grade receiving a new seat fabric design. New, heavy-duty all-weather flooring is offered in the 2012 Tacoma Access and Double Cab models. The specialized TRD Sport and Off-Road models offer new, water-resistant fabric protection seats. Side mirrors with turn signal lamps and chrome-clad 18-inch wheels will be available with the TRD Sport Package for 2012.

Final 25 Winners Announced for Toyota 100 Cars for Good

While Toyota has already begun awarding some winners, the manufacturer has announced the final 25 winners in the Toyota 100 Cars for Good program.

“The final 25 winners of the Toyota 100 Cars for Good Program are excellent examples of human compassion put into effective action,” said Jim Lentz, president of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. in a released statement. “It has been an honor to be a part of this program, and to highlight the good work done by non-profit organizations, and to help them expand their services. We congratulate all of the 100 Cars for Good winners, and thank them for leading the way in caring for their communities.”

In the last 25 chosen, the services range from child services to animal welfare and education.

Public voting for the 100 Cars for Good program opened May 9 and continued through August 16. Voters were allowed to place one vote per day, each day, over the course of the program. Each day, the previous day’s winner was announced and five new nonprofit organizations were featured for voting.  Winning organizations can choose from the following vehicles: Prius, Tacoma, Tundra, Highlander Hybrid, Sienna or Sienna Mobility. Toyota will provide a six-year, 100,000-mile Toyota Vehicle Service Agreement to provide extended protection beyond the vehicle warranty.

Toyota Delivers First Cars to Winning Organizations

Monday, Toyota delivered the first car in its “100 Cars for Good” program.

The Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center in Morristown, NJ received a new Toyota Sienna minivan from the Toyota of Morristown dealership. Toyota Motor North America President Yoshimi Inaba was in attendance to celebrate the event. The kitchen serves the homeless, poor and elderly in Morristown and surrounding areas year-round.

Tuesday, the Laura Recovery Center for Missing Children in Friendswood, Texas received a Toyota Prius from the Toyota Center in Houston. Jim Lentz, president of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. delivered the Prius on the company’s behalf. The Laura Recovery Center works to prevent abductions and runaways and to recover missing children.

The final vehicle delivery on Wednesday featured a Highlander Hybrid SUV delivered to Sol Collective, a Sacrament, Ca. community-based partnership that uses art, education and technology to empower residents. Bob Carter, group vice president and general manager for Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc., represented Toyota in the delivery.

“While we have a history of giving to nonprofit programs, 100 Cars for Good is the first Toyota initiative to put the public in the driver’s seat of one of our major philanthropic efforts,” said Toyota Motor North America President and Chief Operating Officer Yoshimi Inaba, in a released statement. “It’s an honor for Toyota to contribute to the work of 100 great organizations, which are providing valuable and much-needed services to our communities. They are an inspiration for all of us in helping others.”

The 100 Cars for Good contest launched in March 2011 with more than 3,000 applicants entering for a chance to win a new Toyota. Applications were reduced down to 500 finalists by an independent panel of judges. The finalists submitted online profiles to rally their friends and supporters and encourage voting on the Toyota USA Facebook page, with five finalists up for consideration by the public each day.
Winning organizations were able to choose from the following vehicles:  Toyota Prius, Tacoma, Tundra, Highlander Hybrid, Sienna or Sienna Mobility. The vehicles come with a six-year, 100,000-mile Vehicle Service Agreement to provide extended protection beyond the vehicle warranty, compliments of Toyota Financial Services or Gulf States Financial Services. Runners-up each received a $1,000 donation.
The Toyota 100 Cars for Good Program enables the 100 organizations to receive a Toyota vehicle to make a greater impact on the community. Winners spanned several categories, including: human services, health and safety, supporting veterans, animal welfare and protecting victims of abuse.

New MSRPs Announced by Toyota

Toyota has announced the manufacturer’s suggested retail prices for the 2012 Yaris, Sequoia, Tundra and Sienna.

Yaris

The Yaris liftback has an all-new design entering its second generation. The Toyota Star Safety System is standard again this year and models will have many enhancements including an SE model with enhanced tuned suspension.

Yaris will continue to be an excellent value with more than $1,000 of additional standard equipment. Pricing for the all-new 2012 Yaris will be comparable to a Convenience Package-equipped current generation Yaris. The base MSRP will range from $14,115 for the L grade three-door liftback with a five-speed manual transmission to $17,200 for the SE grade five-door liftback with a four-speed automatic transmission. The prices for the 2012 Yaris will go into effect with the start of production on August 31.

Sequoia

The 2012 Sequoia increases towing safety with a Trailer Sway Control system added as standard equipment. The Sequoia will also feature a new Blind Spot Monitor on the Platinum grade. With a sleek interior the Sequoia will feature black upper instrumentation panel and black carpet. Toyota will also offer a new exterior color, Sizzling Crimson Mirca.

From Toyota:

Pricing on most Sequoia models remain unchanged. The MSRP for the 2012 Sequoia ranges from $40,930 for the 4×2 SR5 with a 4.6-liter V8 to $61,805 for the 4×4 Platinum grade equipped with the 5.7-liter V8, reflecting an increase of $239, 0r 0.4 percent. Prices for the 2012 Sequoia will go into effect beginning with its start of production on August 29.

 Tundra

The 2012 Tundra full-size pickup features styled steel wheels as standard with a stylish black upper instrumentation panel and black carpet. Other standard features include a Cold Area Package, daytime running lights and heated mirrors. The Limited grades now include a backup camera and an available Super White exterior color.

From Toyota:

Pricing for the 2012 Tundra ranges from $27,115 for the 4×2 Tundra Grade Double Cab V6 with a five-speed automatic transmission to $43,345 for the 4×4 CrewMax Limited with a 5.7-liter V8 and 6-speed automatic, reflecting an increase of $348, or 1.1 percent. Prices for the 2012 Tundra will go into effect beginning with start of production on September 1.

Sienna

Not much has changed on the Sienna but the value remains the same.

From Toyota:

Pricing for the Sienna will range from $24,520 for the front-wheel-drive Base grade to $40,570 for the all-wheel-drive Limited, reflecting an overall increase of $174 or 0.5 percent. Prices for the 2012 Sienna will go into effect beginning with the start of production on September 6.

The MSRPs do not include the delivery, processing and handling fee.
